Witness for Christ

The contents of this section provide the biblical framework through which God will work in this department.  All staff, department leaders and those desiring to serve in leadership must be intimately familiar with this information.  If you are a ministry team leader in this department also refer to your ministry area for specific details concerning your area.  The following information will help position you and your ministry for progress worthy of the King and His Kingdom.

“But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness,

and all these things will be added to you.

(Matthew 6:33)

V  Outreach – reaching others with the compassion of Christ

  • Kingdom Focus:  OTHERS

  • Primary Kingdom Goal:  Build healthy, redemptive, Christ-centered relationships with OTHERS with the ultimate goal of helping lost souls see and seize the opportunity to accept Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.

  • People Focus:  Neighbors

  • Biblical Mission:  Impacting the world for Christ with the word of God, the Gospel of Jesus, and healthy, redemptive Christ-centered relationships

  • Biblical Value: Compassion  (Outward Compassion)

  • Ministry Key Words:  Healthy relationships, The Gospel

  • Spiritual Growth Measurements[1]:  # of baptisms followed by compassionately thorough discipleship (that is, First Steps graduates)

  • Personally I am on-mission when I...  Witness!

  • My ministry area is on-mission when we lead people serving in our church to... bring others to Jesus Christ and active church membership

  • Our Motto:  “Just one more soul!”

Diagnostic Ministry Question for Witnessing Ministries

v How can we develop “on-mission” people?

v How can we help people build healthy, redemptive relationships that model and speak of Christ to others?

v How will it build on or promote current ministry goals of our church?

[1] Whereas it is difficult to measure spiritual growth, churches can measure behaviors related to spiritual growth, such as attendance, biblical giving, Christian service, witnessing and living holy.  Although these indicators are not in and of themselves guarantees of spiritual growth, together they do indicate whether a church body is headed in the right direction.
