Ready for More?

Kevin Thomas

þAre you ready for your life or ministry to take off?
þHave you tried everything you know to be successful?

þYou’re ready!
þGod’s ready!
LSo what’s the problem?

An old joke says, “If you think education is expensive, try ignorance.” God’s people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. The needed knowledge is available, but His people ignore it. Consequently, He rejects His own people –those who say they love Him – from being His priests and leaders. Forgetting or overlooking His word even has a negative impact upon our children, the next generation.

My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.
Because you have rejected knowledge,
I also will reject you from being My priest.
Since you have forgotten the law of your God,
I also will forget your children.”
(Hosea 4:6)

You might say to yourself, “I’ve been faithful and kind, but I’m still struggling beyond what’s normal.” Many good intentioned people are struggling while many others are prospering in leaps and bounds. What’s the difference? Much of it has to do with the decisions you make. Making an informed decision on good information can make all the difference in the world. Think of the times you’ve looked back and said, “If I only knew then what I know now.”

What kind of knowledge have God’s people rejected? The end of Hosea 4:1 indicates God’s people have historically rejected “knowledge of God in the land.” This phrase refers to how God operates in the land. It speaks of His principles or laws. Just as the law of gravity always pulls you down, God’s spiritual laws are in place and when you learn to operate according to His laws (or principles found in Scripture), you will find success in the land.

“Listen to the word of the Lord, O sons of Israel,
For the Lord has a case against the inhabitants of the land,
Because there is no faithfulness or kindness
Or knowledge of God in the land.
(Hosea 4:1)

What can you do about this, especially since God is no respecter of persons. If He did it for one, He can do it for another. But will He? Scripture makes it clear He is no respecter of persons (Deut. 10:17; Acts 10:34; Col. 3:25), but He is a respecter of His principles found in the Bible.

Therefore, if you learn God’s word and how to apply it according to His principles, you can claim God’s promises and impact this world for Christ. I know this sounds too simplistic, but we've found it to be the simple truth.

Listen to this promise: “Whatever you do will prosper.” But it’s only when you do it God’s way. I’m not a health-wealth preacher, but I do believe God’s promises and that Scripture when properly applied yields a healthy balance between poverty and prosperity.

“How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked,
Nor stand in the path of sinners,
Nor sit in the seat of scoffers!
But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And in His law he meditates day and night.
He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water,
Which yields its fruit in its season
And its leaf does not wither;
And in whatever he does, he prospers.”
(Psalm 1:1-3)
